Good leadership is vital for the success of every organisation.
Good leaders are a source of inspiration for employees, stakeholders and similar organisations who give direction to the organisation, intervene when things don’t go well, ensure that employees are competent and lay the foundation for a healthy organisation.
To be a good leader, you need different communication skills and a vision.
During a 5-day training session organised by the LibreFoundation from the 26th of February to the 1st of March, two trainers from the LibreFoundation namely Mr. Ivo Spanjersberg and Mr Paul Van Zwam trained 15 young leaders from CSO’s in Douala, Cameroon.
Green Farmlands was represented by their Project Coordinator. During the 5 days training, he acquired skills on Leadership and Communication, and intends to pass these skills on to the rest the members of the organisation.
These skills included;
- Verbal communication;
- How to give feedback (What went well/Even Better If);
- Non-verbal communication;
- Body language;
- Goal setting;
- Uniting a group;
- Team work;
- Learning to learn;
- The art of asking questions;
- Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation;
- Situational leadership;
- Conflict management and
- Fundraising.
What went well?
What went well during this training session, which was very much appreciated by all the trainees, was the practicality of the training and the use of games and activities to master the concepts. The understanding and accommodation shown by the trainers as well, despite the language barrier, was one to remember.
Even Better If;
The training would have been Even Better If it was held for a longer period of time, so that we could learn more concepts about the work place such as emotional intelligence.
We at Green Farmlands would like to thank the LibreFoundation for taking the resources out to help give young leaders in Africa access to quality training on Leadership and Communication.
