Friday April 19th, brought together the expert team of green farmlands who welcomed Clair Kelly, West Africa and MENA Regional Director at Whole planet Foundation. Her organization, Whole Planet, supports organizations that empower people living in poverty to meet their basic needs and become more resilient through income-generating opportunities.
Fortu Rahab, project Assistant for Green Farmlands, graced Claire’s presence with a summary of what Green Farmlands is about, what we do and how we do it. The team later took turns to ask questions for clarification. Claire on her part gave a rundown of Whole Planet is about, its mission, objectives and how they operate. Claire got a chance to talk with some framers of Green Farmlands and tried to inquire how they collaborate with Green Farmlands and their expectation of the outcome for their collaboration. She also had a talk with our extension worker, Mr Franklin Ntoko who gave an insight of farmer’s wants and needs and how they can be supported.
The major objective of the meeting was to get to know each other’s organization further and to find areas of strong alignment for possible future collaboration. Just like Whole Planet, Green Farmlands work with small scale farmers to increase their productivity and production through the Farm School initiative where we train them on new improved and adaptable farm practices.
By the end of the meeting, both organizations had identified a strong alignment and promised to further the discussion on supporting smallscale farmers with inputs and training. With a hope to work with Whole Planet, at the end, the team with Claire planned to come up with a strategy and a door where Green Farmlands and Whole Planet can work to achieve a common goal of improving the livelihood of smallholder farmers.
