The Green Basket is a platform created by Green Farmlands via which consumers of fresh fruits and vegetables can shop for their groceries online and have them delivered to their preferred location in order to help local farmers sell what they produce on time and at reasonable prices so as to reduce Post-Harvest Loss and Improve their Livelihoods.
In Cameroon,
- Small scale farmers account for 80% of the food supply in Cameroon but
- 80% of the food produced by local farmers ends up as waste and contributes to post-harvest loss
- Open air markets are characterized by noise, poor hygiene and inconvenience
The opportunity which exists for this project includes;
- A Steady rise in GDP and economic growth rate and
- Birth of a health conscious middle class
