Most often than not, we assume that malnutrition only results from not getting enough protein, calories or micronutrients, and forget that the overconsumption of certain nutrients, such as protein, calories or fat, can also lead to malnutrition. This usually results in overweight or obesity.
However, other problems that stem from malnutrition such as impaired cognitive development, compromised immune function, and lost productivity exacerbate many of lifeโs existing challenges.
But did you know that addressing malnutrition in children can facilitate amongst other things, economic productivity?
Stunting which occurs when a child fails to reach their growth potential as a result of malnutrition, has permanent and irreversible consequences, hindering the physical but most importantly, the mental development of an individual.
Stunting has been associated with an underdeveloped brain, which explains poor performance in school and consequently, the economic growth of a country dominated by stunted kids will be affected in the future.
In fact, estimates suggest that stunted children earn 20% lesser as adults compared to healthy individuals, which has potential implications for national development as well.
If we truly believe that children are the leaders of tomorrow, then we will join this fight against malnutrition because it doesnโt only affect the physical being, but also has irreversible consequences on the mental development of a child.
At ๐ฎ๐๐๐๐ ๐ญ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐, we carry out projects like the ๐๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ญ ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง initiative, which is aimed at making orphanages in Cameroon food secured by assisting them with the resources needed to grow their own vegetables and be self-sustainable. Our goal is to achieve zero hunger in orphanages in Cameroon.
๐๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ญ ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง is expected to work with 10 orphanages in Cameroon through a period of 5years. It is estimated that each orphanage houses approximately 25 children therefore in a period of 5years we can boast of having secured food for at-least 250 children housed in 10 orphanages in the North West and South West Regions.
